The wait is over and in 3 days we have the official NFL Kickoff for the 2021-2022
Season. With no surprise, Tom Brady is starting in the season’s first game. The
defending Super Bowl champs look to repeat after bringing all starters from last
year back. The spotlight of course is on Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. will be
making his 300th career start. Barring any injuries, Brady should overtake Brett
Favre for most games played at quarterback which is 303 games. With 2 more
years left on the future Hall of Famer’s contract, the quarterback is eying his 8th
Super Bowl win. Brady is already the NFL’s all-time leader in Super Bowl victories.
2nd place is Charles Haley. The linebacker won 5, 2 with the San Francisco 49ers
and 3 with the Dallas Cowboys. The career that Brady has had, can be broken
down and split into 2 separate careers, and still be better than some of the greats
that have played the game. Let’s start with the 10 seasons after his first year since
he only threw 3 passes. 2001-2010 Brady amassed a 111-32 record, 2 NFL MVPs
and 3 Super Bowl victories. This includes the 2007 undefeated season, which no
other quarterback has done. Also, the year Brady sustained his season ending
injury in 2008, his only injury that cost him playing time. The ironman’s first half
of his career even exceeds Troy Aikman’s entire Hall of Fame Career. Yes Aikman’s
3 Lombardi trophies ties Brady, but Aikman had 0 NFL MVPs in his 12 year career.
Fast forward to his next 10 seasons. 2011-2020 Brady again has a stellar
performance. Adding 119-37 regular season record, 1 more NFL MVP and 4
additional Lombardi Trophies. The Super Bowls match, the one I considered the
greatest of all-time before Brady passed him, Joe Montana’s 4 he won in San
Francisco. Montana had 1 more NFL MVP, in 16 NFL seasons. This is why what
Tom Brady is STILL doing, is something you couldn’t even imagine. At age 44, he is
the oldest to start and play in a Super Bowl. Led the Tampa Buccaneers to a title
and set the mark for the first team to ever win a Super Bowl that they hosted.
Many people compare or even say that Patrick Mahomes II will surpass Tom
Brady once all is said and done. This may be true, but in my book, the loss in last
year’s Super Bowl puts Mahomes II backwards in this discussion. Because if he is
going to be the next GOAT, his record is 0-1 in the game that matters the most vs.
the unanimous GOAT Tom Brady.
As mentioned, Thursday September 9, 2021 will be Tom Brady’s 300 th career start.
I am predicting a big blowout vs. the Dallas Cowboys. The firepower that the Bucs
have on offense and the force they have on defense, will be too much for the
Cowboys to handle. I expect Brady and the Bucs to put up 40 points and blow the
doors off the Cowboys. Tom Brady will be in the MVP conversion come the end of
the season. The weapons he has reminds me of the year he had Randy Moss with
the patriots. They went 16-0 and lost in the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.
The defense is just as good which leads me to believe there is something special
brewing for this year’s Buccaneers squad. The NFL implemented an 18-week, 17
game regular season. Could we see Tampa Bay go 17-0 in the first year of the new
format? I wouldn’t say it is too far-fetched to think it can happen. Obviously, the
week 4 matchup against the New England Patriots is the most important game on
the Bucs schedule. Brady also eyes to win in that matchup and then he can say he
has won vs. all 32 NFL teams in his career. The Patriots had quite the offseason.
Spending the most they ever have in a free agency period. Which brings me back
to Brady’s last year in New England. Brady went 12-4 with personnel that Cam
Newton went 7-9 with. Making it the first year the Patriots missed the playoffs
since 2008, the year Brady had the season ending injury in week 1.
This is how big of an impact the best quarterback the league has ever seen, has. So, instead of
hating this man for beating up on your team, stopping your squad from getting to
a Super Bowl, or winning one. Enjoy the last few years we have left of Tom Brady.
I don’t think we will see a stretch like this again in our lifetime.
