During a media session held this morning as part of the New York Jets' organized team activities (OTA's), head coach Robert Saleh provided a promising update on the recovery progress of standout running back Breece Hall, who suffered a torn ACL.

"He looks good," Saleh said. "Again, he's one of those kids that we've had to kind of hold back from him because -- it's weird to say it, you don't want to heal too fast on an ACL. You've got to be able to balance it out with strength. He looks strong. He looks powerful. He's learning. I'm excited for him to get back on the field. I feel like he won't need to be limited during training camp, even though we still will just be conscientious and cautious with him, but he looks awesome."

Saleh expressed a high level of optimism, stating that he believes Hall could be fully prepared to take the field in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

This news comes as a positive development for the Jets, as they look forward to having their talented young tailback back in action for the start of the 2023 season.

"I'm very optimistic on that one," Saleh said of Hall’s status for the season opener against Buffalo.. "I don't want to jinx it. (Knocks on wood) I mean, the kid's already hitting over 22 miles per hour (mph) on the GPS, so he looks frickin' good."

During week 7, Hall suffered a torn ACL halfway through the team’s 16-9 victory over the Denver Broncos. Prior to the injury, Hall rushed for 72 yards on four carries, highlighted by a 62-yard rushing touchdown.

Hall was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and was on the fast track to being the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year if it wasn’t for the devastating knee injury. Through seven games, Hall had 80 rushes for 463 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry and four touchdowns, while hauling in 19 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown.

His best game last season was against the Green Bay Packers, where he recorded his first career 100-yard game. He ended the game rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a game clinching 34-yard rushing touchdown to take a two-score lead against the Packers in the fourth quarter.

The New York Jets were 5-2 prior to Hall's injury, and once he went down and was ruled out for the year, so was the team’s season.

New York ended the season only winning two more games after their impressive start and saw a dip in production on offense for the remainder of the season. When Hall was on the field, the team averaged 22.7 points per game compared to 13.7 points per game when he wasn’t.

A torn ACL reportedly will take athletes 6-12 months to recover depending on the extent of the tear and for running backs, they rarely come back as the same back the very next year. Tearing an ACL usually takes a running back two years to return to their own form.

Hall’s recovery has reportedly been going well and he’s been on the record for months that he plans on coming back faster and stronger than ever. He has his eyes set for week 1 on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

“My recovery has been going so well,” Hall said. “I’ve had glimpses in these past two weeks of me cutting and just running around where I’m starting to feel like my old self again. At the end of the day, I feel like when I get back, I’ll still be me.”
