Rodgers' Revenge

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

The 2005 NFL Draft is a very famous movie we’ve all seen before. Many remember Alex Smith being taken #1 overall by the 49ers, letting Aaron Rodgers slip all the way down to #24, falling in the lap of the Green Bay Packers. A very crushing blow for a young player just entering the league. Imagine you’re projected to go #1 overall, but you end up having to sit as 23 other players get picked ahead of you. Bears fans should have known this man was going to haunt us for over a decade. His favorite team growing up passed on him for someone else, leaving Rodgers waiting for hours hoping to be drafted pick by pick, and go to a franchise that would take him 3 years to eventually play. We were screwed from the start. The biggest takeaway from that night was the famous quote we all know. Rodgers was asked “how disappointed are you that you will not be a 49er?” , Rodgers replied: “Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn’t draft me.” The absolute balls of an unproven rookie to say something like that, but how disappointed have the 49ers truly been?

Now before I make myself sound like a complete fool, I want to say just one thing: there hasn’t been a single quarterback in the last 15 plus years wearing a 49ers jersey that has an ounce of talent like Rodgers. They would probably have many rings if #12 was a 49er the last 15 years, but are they actually disappointed? They’ve reached the Super Bowl twice without you. (Granted they're 0-2 in very great games, but still 0-2) They’ve also always seemed to have your number when it comes to the postseason. You are 0-3 against the 49ers in the playoffs. The first 2 games were some real tight battles between two very dynamic offenses. The 3rd game just was a shit show for Green Bay against an amazing 49ers defense. The final story is the 49ers have been top dog over Rodgers when it means the most. I’m sure in those moments when they eliminate you from a chance at another ring they don’t feel disappointed. They did it without you, what's there to be disappointed about?

Since draft day of the last season Rodgers has been the main focal point of many, many storylines. The day of the draft Aaron Rodgers apparently requested a trade out of Green Bay. Probably sending 32 war rooms into an absolute frenzy about how this could impact tonight’s draft. He absolutely shit the bed, along with the rest of the team in week one, even causing some Packer fans to burn his jersey. On top of this, Rodgers also contracted Covid-19 while being unvaccinated, though many believed he was due to his “immunized” comment from camp. He broke his pinky toe, called Hub Arkash a bum, hosted Jeopardy, didn’t call home for Christmas, and ate clay. At the end of the day, the dude is the top seed in the NFC, and is going to win his 4th MVP. So this is it Aaron. Time to get over your kryptonite, Superman. Maybe your “Last Dance” in Green Bay, maybe not. This may be your final opportunity to show the 49ers how disappointed they should be for not drafting you. I feel like this will be the moment he makes San Francisco pay. After an entire season of controversy over his head, it just seems fitting for him. To end the season of the team he’s been the most tied to other than Green Bay. Rodgers will dominate the San Francisco 49ers this weekend reminding us all how disappointed they really are. Make it sit with them how differently they would be looked upon if they drafted the most talented quarterback of our generation.

Only to lose in the NFC Championship once again...
