Remembering Kobe Bryant Two Years Later

It’s been two years now since the passing of Kobe Bryant and the eight others who died in the horrific helicopter accident. One of the most gut wrenching days I can remember in my lifetime. The first time I ever cried over the death of a celebrity. It felt impossible. Someone you look upon as immortal. An absolute icon. The biggest star, who played for the most historic franchises, in one of America’s greatest cities. You don’t think it’s even possible that he can die. He was someone you thought was going to be around forever. Putting his stunning IQ back into the game in some form. Which he was doing before his life was unfortunately cut short. He was coaching his daughter Gianna, who also died in the accident, along with her team. He was doing the ESPN show “Detail: From The Mind of Kobe Bryant.” He broke down multiple players and positions for us all to see. The things I would do to have access to those videos at such a young age. I was stuck watching old youtube breakdowns from someone that was not nearly as qualified as Kobe Bryant. Granted with my athleticism it probably wouldn’t have mattered much down the road, other than maybe a few more minutes off the bench. He also was an Academy Award winner. This man who would rip out people’s throats and step on it wrote a poem and turned it into a short film called “Dear Basketball”. Not only that but he was the first African American to win the award.

Kobe Bryant was an inspiration to all. He lived an extraordinary life. Proving to us when one chapter ends, another one begins. He set examples on how to be an amazing father. How to be better as humans. His death will be one that sticks with me forever. It’s scary how short life can be. As short as it unfortunately was for Kobe, he lived every second of it to the fullest.
