Justin Fields continues to show each week he is taking a step into becoming one of the league’s biggest dual threat QB’s and his legs are officially becoming his biggest threat, while his arm is still growing.
It’s extremely promising in many aspects, Luke Getsy has shown that he is able to run this offense around the quarterback, and not around the system. Fields' arm is arguably getting better every week, and the statistics are backing it up. Although, when the pass isn’t there, he takes matters into his own hands.
"This past Sunday's game was a long-term win for the Chicago Bears, obviously losing to a division rival is never fun, but look at it this way; The Bears first round pick gains even more value."
"Meanwhile, Detroit can celebrate the win, but their draft position only gets worse. You have to imagine Detroit fans are hoping to land Alabama's Bryce Young or Ohio State's CJ Stroud, but Sunday's win made it all the more difficult to make that dream become a reality."
Brian Baldinger says there are no moral victories in the NFL, but how can you not be excited about the path Justin Fields is on?
The Bears have seven games remaining on their schedule with all taking place at noon. From here on out, I'll be posting weekly articles following the path that Justin Field is on and it will be released every week after the game.
Justin Fields Sunday stat line against Detroit.
60% Completion Percentage
167 Passing Yards
2 Passing Touchdowns
1 Interception
147 Rushing Yards
2 Rushing Touchdowns
Justin Fields 17 game pace after 10 games.
59% Completion Percentage
2,531 Passing Yards
20 Passing Touchdowns
12 Interceptions
1,273 Rushing Yards
10 Rushing Touchdowns
Now the easiest year two comparison comes between Jalen Hurts or Josh Allen.
There’s no doubt that Fields had undoubtedly been the biggest midseason turnaround in the NFL as he went from the most scrutinized to one of the most praised.
Justin Fields has 18 total touchdowns in the NFL, which is tied for 4th with Tua Tagovailoa, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Geno Smith.
He trails only Joe Burrow (22), Josh Allen (24), and Patrick Mahomes (26).
Now if you look at Fields' last 6 games and put them on a 17 game pace, he is on track for Pro Bowl numbers.
63% Completion Percentage
2,884 Passing Yards
28 Passing Touchdowns
9 Interceptions
1,700 Rushing Yards
14 Touchdowns
As you can see, Fields' last six games have been a major change since his rough start to the season. His passing numbers have slightly risen, while his rushing numbers spiked heavily.
It’s nearly impossible for a quarterback to rush for 1,700 yards on the ground, but defenses are due to adjust and the hits will add up on your quarterback. Regardless, this just shows that over the last six games the Bears have called their offense around his talent, and not the scheme.
For Bears fans, all you can hope for is to see him continue to grow every week in the league, while it makes it all the more easier on Ryan Poles moving forward in his decision making.
