The Cincinnati Reds are off to a historic start in 2022 as after last night, they are now 3-21. They’re on pace to go 21-141. After starting the season 2-2 at the defending World Series champs in Atlanta, the Reds have won just 1 game in their last 20. Now, it’s almost impossible to continue that pace considering the worst record of all-time for a 162 game season belongs to the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who went 43-119. The 1899 Cleveland Spiders went 20-134 and own the MLB’s worst winning percentage for a single season, but that was only 154 games.
The Reds are hitting .200 as a team, which is 2nd worst in the bigs and have easily the worst OPS in baseball at .584. Not another team in baseball has a team ERA of 5 or more… Except the Cincinnati Redlegs. But they’re not exactly in the 5’s because their staff has an ERA of 6.68. To put that into perspective, the worst pitching staff in the history of Major League Baseball is the 1930 Philadelphia Phillies at 6.71 so adding to the offensive struggles, the pitching staff is in a neck-and-neck race with the worst pitching staff of all-time on an ERA basis.
