Packers vs Eagles: Lines, Picks, Predictions from the NFL's First Brazil Game

Ravens @ Chiefs was tasked with starting the new season off with a bang and it certainly delivered. We may be witnessing the breakout of a star Tight End in Isaiah Likely, Rashee Rice started his sophomore campaign out strong with 7 catches for 103 yards, and Xavier Worthy found the end zone twice last night both on the ground and through the air. I wrote about him yesterday with hopes of him being reminiscent of a young Tyreek Hill and it looks like the Chiefs may have found themselves a late first round steal. As for the Ravens, they need to use last night’s game to figure out what they want their offensive identity to be. The potential breakout of Likely is nice, yet I still worry about their core of weapons as a whole.

Regarding yesterday’s picks, 1-3 is not the start I had hoped. The Chiefs managed to get it done with a big sweat in the final seconds, however Pacheco finishes one yard short of his rush + receiving yard line and Derrick Henry could not seem to find the gaps, finishing with just 46 rushing yards. Not to worry, though, as we have the opportunity to start this weekend in the green and enjoy an exciting Packers and Eagles showdown.

Friday Night Football Week 1: Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles (-2) O/U 50

Eagles -2 (-112)

When playing at a neutral site in Brazil, I am going to trust the better overall roster that only got better in the offseason. On offense they now have one of the best running backs in football in Saquon Barkley and teams have to put their third best DB on Jahan Dotson. On defense they drafted some promising pieces in guys like Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Jerimiah Trotter. The talent acquisition does not even stop there as they also got their hands on LB Devin White. I would like to say I am higher than most on the Packers this year (hard to admit as a Bears fan), but this is a tough first game. Look for Jordan Love to make some plays, but it will not be enough to cover the spread.

Saquon Barkley Over 63.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

A back as good as Barkley behind a line as good as the Eagles does not seem fair. Yet, the line on his rush yards is only 63.5. This seems almost disrespectfully low. Jalen Hurts, as talented as he is, I would not say is in the upper echelon of passers in the game. Barkley is a great security blanket to give the ball to at almost any down and distance. With the holes the Philly O-Line is able to create, I anticipate Barkley breaking loose more than once tonight.

Jayden Reed Over 3.5 Receptions (-125)

When the Packers had that really hot second half of the season last year, who was Jordan Love’s favorite target? Jayden Reed. He started as the WR3 last year and, while not certain, you can make a real case Reed could be the WR1 in this Packers offense. He is great in the slot, and he has the ability to line up wide and create explosive play opportunities. In his final 10 games last year, he went over 3.5 catches in 9 of them. I am loving this line for Reed and, even though I have the Packers losing this game, I expect the Packers to build off of their strong finish last year.
