Week 1 of the NFL season is almost in the books. For the highly anticipated 2021 NFL season,
the matchups from Thursday to Sunday night did not disappoint. Having stadiums filled with
fans, 3 rookie quarterbacks make their debut and another 2 rookies being implemented into
their offense, week 1 had it all. After all that, always leads to some overreactions on the day
after Sunday. There were expectations from some teams coming into Sunday with high
expectations. Green Bay Packers were one of those teams. Coming off a loss in the NFC
Championship game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many people thought the Packers
could be back. Even with the drama in the offseason with Aaron Rodgers not sure if he wanted
to stay in Green Bay. Rodgers worked things out with management and reported to training
camp. The reigning MVP is sure to have a successful season. That’s what I still believe. I read
other articles or hear analysts say the Packers are in trouble and are too distracted with the
Rodgers’ drama. On the flipside of the 38-3 loss of the Packers/Saints game, everyone is
handing Jameis Winston the NFL MVP. Winston had a stellar performance, don’t get me wrong.
He was the reason I still believe New Orleans is a playoff team. He adds another element that
Drew Brees didn’t have, the deep ball. Winston was wonderful throwing the ball deep with
accuracy. He went 14-20, with 148 yards and 5 touchdowns. I understand praising him for his
performance but pump the brakes on the MVP talk. Let’s not bury Rodgers after he went 15/28
for 133 yards and 2 interceptions. He has bad games just like every other quarterback not
named Patrick Mahomes. Rodgers was just as bad in last year’s regular season loss to Tampa
Bay. The Packers were beat 38-10. The Packers would go 13-3 and a game away from the Super
Bowl.
Next overreaction is the Philadelphia Eagles have a chance in the NFC East. Philadelphia beat up
on a team with a terrible defense which is the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta went offensive heavy
this offseason and draft. Bringing in Arthur Smith as the head coach who was the offensive
coordinator for the Tennessee Titans last year. Drafting tight end Kyle Pitts in the first round
which the #4 overall pick. They could have added the best defensive player at any position they
wanted. 3 quarterbacks were taken the first 3 picks. Although playing well against the Atlanta
offense, the Eagles still have a lackluster defense. A tough schedule with offensive power
houses in the NFC, they will be put to the test week in and week out. I still believe the division
will be either Washington’s or Dallas’. On to Houston, winning big against Jacksonville Jaguars,
many now speculate Houston to be really good with the division their in, can maybe challenge
the Titans. Indianapolis is king in that division, even after their loss. Houston will be a bottom
team again and most likely 4th in their division. Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Colts who were 11-5 after the season. That would be the Jaguars only win all season. That is why I will stick with
the Indianapolis Colts in this one.
Ending with the things we still know. Daniel Jones isn’t an NFL starting quarterback. He will be
the one to sink the Giants chances at the playoffs. Great offensive weapons and a solid defense,
they are held back with Jones. The Los Angeles Rams have an explosive offense and terrifying
defense. With an upgrade at quarterback, they proved us right by dismantling the Chicago
Bears. Who also proved that their offensive line is beat up and broken beyond repair. Trust me I
want Justin Fields on the field starting as much as the next person. Behind this offensive line he
is doomed and would be a waste of talent. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the
league. Mounting his 10th comeback from behind of 10+ points in a game. Breaking Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner’s record for most passing yards in his first 50 games. Mahomes did it in 47 games. Let’s be patient with the NFL season. Don’t be foolish with the overreactions after the most chaotic week of the whole NFL schedule. The Eagles won’t finish first, Atlanta will be last in Division, Daniel Jones will not start in New York next year. Let’s hold back from jumping
to conclusions next time. As Aaron Rodgers said, “There are 16 games left.”.
