Guessing The Offensive Coordinator of Dan Quinn's "All Star" Staff

Dan Quinn hasn’t even been named Head Coach of the Chicago Bears yet (I got a weird feeling he’s going to be hired). Am I jumping the gun a little? Maybe. I’m just doing my due diligence as a Bears fan who would love to know who’s going to be running Justin Fields' offense the next few seasons. I’ll start by saying this. Dan Quinn is far from my favorite option. He’s also not the absolute worst option out there. For those who don’t know Dan Quinn I’ll give you a quick background check. Quinn is known for the famous 28-3 blown lead to the Patriots in Super Bowl 51 as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. We’re not off to a hot start. Other than that, Quinn’s got an amazing résumé. He was the mind behind Seattle’s Legion Of Boom. The greatest defense of the decade and one that went to back to back Super Bowls. He went 43-42 in five and a half years as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Finishing below second in the south only once when he finished 3rd with a 10-6 finish. He’s built a damn good crew in Atlanta. Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFluer, Mike LaFluer, and Mike McDaniels all were a part of that great Falcons team. Since then he rebuilt the Cowboys defense in one season having an amazing season while also leading them to the most turnovers in the NFL. Dan Quinn says he has an All Star staff ready to roll. Let’s take a peek into who could be the Bears offensive coordinator if Quinn is hired.

Doug Nussmeier

Doug Nussmeier, 51, is just one of my many possibilities. He is the current quarterbacks coach of the Dallas Cowboys and has been since 2020. He’s been with Dallas since 2018 previously being the tight ends coach under Jason Garrett. Nussmeier, a former NFL quarterback, has a solid résumé. He was the offensive coordinator and QB coach at Alabama when A.J McCarron broke numerous school records and won a national title. He’s worked under big names like Nick Saban, Steve Sarkisian, Jason Garrett, Mike McCarthy, and John Smith. Although having a solid career, Nussmeier would ultimately be disappointing as the offensive coordinator of the Bears. He hasn’t truly shown he can stick around with a franchise and run an offense.

Adam Henry

Adam Henry, 49, is one of the more slept on names in this process. He’s been an NFL wide receivers and tight ends coach since 2009 besides his three years spent in LSU from 2012-2014. Henry helped develop Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry into who they are today and have been with them almost every step of the way. After LSU he joined the 49ers in 2015 where they had the worst offense in the league. Adam Henry didn’t have much to work with other than 35 year old Anquan Boldin. In 2016 he reunited with Odell in New York where he helped Odell to a Pro Bowl season. Sterling Shephard and Victor Cruz also put up impressive numbers. After his stint with New York he joined Cleveland to work with the duo he helped grow in LSU, OBJ and Jarvis Landry. After Freddie Kitchens departure he was out as well in Cleveland. That led to his hire with Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys where he once again turned a promising player, Ceedee Lamb, into a super star. In his first year Cooper, Lamb, and Gallup combined for nearly 3,000 yards all while catching passes from Andy Dalton 75% of the season. Adam Henry is due for a chance at an offensive coordinator position but after only spending one season with Dan Quinn I can see Quinn maybe looking in a more experienced direction.

Adam Stenavich

Now while Dan Quinn has no true relation to Adam Stenavich, everyone knows the Falcons were at their best when Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFluer were calling the shots in Atlanta. Adam Stenavich comes from both Shanahan and LaFluer. Stenavich is only 38 years old and was an undrafted free agent signed to the Panthers in 2006. He spent five years bouncing around team to team before becoming an offensive assistant with Michigan in 2012. In 2017 he joined Shanahan in San Francisco only to leave him in 2019 for Green Bay for the offensive line and run game coordinator job. Since then the Packers have sent numerous offensive lineman to the pro bowl even claiming some all pro spots. With Chicago having two new tackles in Teven Jenkins and Larry Borom, Stenavich could be a great piece for Quinn to acquire. Coming from two premier offensive minds in LaFleur and Shanahan, I could get behind Stenavich running Chicago’s offense. Being the Offensive Line coach in Green Bay and bringing that experience to develop great protection for Fields would be huge. Also while being the run game coordinator and hopefully being able establish success with Montgomery, Herbert, and Cohen could be great. All would benefit Justin Fields' growth. I would love this hire.

Brian Schottenheimer

Am I at the point where I’m just rooting for my own offensive coordinators if Quinn is hired? Maybe. Maybe not. When Justin Fields was drafted out of Ohio St. I think everyone kind of felt he had a very similar play style as Russell Wilson. Other than Pete Carroll, I don’t know if anyone knows Russell Wilson better than Brian Schottenheimer. He spent three seasons as offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks until he was shockingly let go in 2020. He arguably had Russell Wilson playing his best ball over those three seasons in Seattle. Russ was a pro bowler all three years under Schottenheimer. Set touchdown highs for Russ as well. Dan Quinn spent two years with Wilson is Seattle as well appearing in two Super Bowls together. If Dan Quinn wants his quarterback to succeed I think Brian Schottenheimer is a great candidate. He’s worked with Phillip Rivers very young into his career. He was the offensive coordinator for the Jets when Mark Sanchez was playing at his highest. He worked with Andrew Luck for two seasons as well before joining Seattle in 2018. He spent his 2021 season as the passing game coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars helping develop Trevor Lawrence. Now Schottenheimer I think deserves another shot at turning Fields into what Chicago needs. A franchise quarterback.

Kellen Moore?

Alright I’ve taken this one too far obviously. Kellen Moore is getting head coaching interviews. Why would he want to leave for Chicago, for the exact same position he has in Dallas? He probably wouldn’t. Dallas has a very proven quarterback in Dak Prescott. The best wide receiving core in the NFL. A premier offensive line, and running back. The only thing about this is Kellen Moore would have absolute full control over the offense in Chicago. He doesn’t have that in Dallas under Mike McCarthy. It isn’t happening though like I’ve seen some dream about on Twitter. As promising as Chicago’s offense could be, it would only be a step back for Kellen Moore in path for a head coaching gig. He will either stick in Dallas or get hired by one of the nine available positions available.
