From MVP to Disrespected

4th year quarterback Lamar Jackson seems to be enduring some slander in the sports media. It

seems that even though Jackson has started his career with an outstanding 30-7 regular season

record, and notching his first playoff win last season, this isn’t enough. Not to mention the 2019

NFL MVP has managed to do this all before the age of 25. The 24-year-old Jackson has shown

he is the best dual threat quarterback in the league. It isn’t even close. One could argue he is

the best dual threat quarterback to ever play the game, in just 3 seasons. Recent history has

shown us that a quarterback should be throwing over 4,000 yards and 30+ TD passes. If that is

what Lamar is being knocked on not achieving, then I think he will be ok. With an offensive

coordinator like Greg Roman, who likes to play efficient football. Roman likes to lean on the run

game, RPOs, and short passing game. Then taking shots deep when they come available. Roman

has never had a 4,000-yard passer. The most passing yards a player has had while he was the

offensive coordinator is 3,369 in 2014 with Colin Kaepernick has his quarterback. Because

Lamar isn’t top 10 in yards and touchdowns this man is penalized. Yet his team went 11-4 when

he started last season. When a quarterback wins when he is on the field that is all I need.

He controls the game with his legs and rushed for over 1,000 for a second straight season.

Helping lead the number 1 rushing attack in the league. I could make an argument that Lamar

Jackson got snubbed from the 2021 Pro Bowl for Deshaun Watson, whose team finished 4-12

and he started all 16 games. But because of the numbers looked good for Watson he was

honored with his 3 rd straight Pro Bowl. In a league where winning is the most important thing,

Lamar again gets disrespected. Jackson had 2,757 yards passing, 26 TD to 9 INT. Adding 1,0005

rushing yards and 7 TD. Those are damn good enough to get anyone to the Pro Bowl. If I told

you a player with a stat line of 3,223 yards passing 24 TD, 12 INT, 421 yards rushing, 3 TD, made

a Pro Bowl, would you believe me? Well, you would have to since that is exactly what Mitchell

Trubisky did in 2018, although as an alternate, still has a Pro Bowl to his name. As many of you

know what my thoughts are on Trubisky since day 1 when my 49ERS pulled highway robbery on

the Chicago Bears in the 2017 draft. This is just something I can’t wrap my brain around.

Lamar Is without question a top 5 quarterback in this league. That puts him ahead of Josh Allen

who finally had a career year, in year 3. This also puts him in front of Matthew Stafford, a guy

who has won nothing in his time in Detroit. Now that Stafford is on the Los Angeles Rams, this

jumps him into the top 10 all of a sudden? Stafford entering his 13th season, with the same

amount of playoff appearances (0-3 record) as Lamar Jackson (1-3 record), which I mentioned is

entering his 4th season. You do the math. This now leads me to Dak Prescott, he puts up great

numbers but the Dallas Cowboys have been up and down and struggle to win a division with

the likes of the New York Giants, Washington Football Team, and Philadelphia Eagles. Jackson’s

biggest hurdle has been the Pittsburgh Steelers but posting a 6-1 record in 7 starts his rookie

year (age 21). Followed by 13-2 in his MVP season, year 2. Then this past season 11-4, and I

would predict 12-4 if he wasn’t on the COVID-19 protocol in their matchup against the Steelers.

That win would have given the Ravens the division after the implosion the Steelers had at the

end of the 2020 season.

Did I mention that Jackson’s leading receivers the last 2 seasons have been 2019 Mark Andrews

64 catches 852 yards. 2020 Marquise Brown 58 catches 769 yards. He has had no true number

1 receiver since being drafted. Yet he doesn’t complain, he comes to work and helps his team to

victory. He does more with less, which the sports media doesn’t seem to realize. Deshaun

Watson who we all think has more throwing talent than Jackson, couldn’t even get over 4 wins.

Baker Mayfield, same draft class as Jackson, hadn’t had a winning season until he got 2 A

players at every skill position. Imagine Lamar Jackson in the Cleveland Browns offense with

those weapons. They would be able to take on the Kansas Chiefs and dominate. Until Josh Allen

can do what he did last year more consistently, then we can argue if him or Lamar Jackson is

the better QB.

Finally, there is no point to also compare Jackson to Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen. As we all know

where they are at this point in their careers. It seems Jackson needs to win a Super Bowl in

order to get his well-deserved respect. Which I see happening in the near future. Remember he

is only 24 years old. Watch out because Baltimore is a scary team when he plays. This team will

be around until Lamar Jackson is not on the field for them. I fully expect the Ravens to win the division title and Jackson to make his second Pro Bowl, to prove these so-called doubters

wrong. The league will be put on notice, when they already should have been.
