Friday Night Lights

If you keep with general sports news like I’m sure you do, you probably saw the story of a fraudulent high school football team taking the field against athletic powerhouse IMG Academy in an ESPN showcase this past week. On first thought, this seemed more like a movie script than a real headline, but I then thought of the possibility of this happening on more levels.

I’m pretty sure half of the NL Central was populated through a MLB The Show franchise that went too far (Lars Nootbar, looking at you). And while the Orioles may be playing like college dropouts, not unlike “Bishop Sycamore,” they are still legitimately a professional team. What surprised me the most was that IMG was still able to beat a team made of people who were at one point college football players. There’s always talk about the skill gap between pros and college level players, but these high schoolers went out and beat grown men. How fucking embarrassing.

If anything, this shows the level of talent that IMG produces. I think the lesson that future prospective fake sports teams should take is to recruit more guys like Carlos from the Benchwarmers rather than the Hingle McCringleberrys of NJCAA.
